The University Prep Panthers came tearing into Monday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Eureka with a 65-59 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Devin Huegel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. Jack Ampi was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Elijah Estrada and Julian Goodman certainly did their best on Monday to try and avoid the loss. Estrada scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Goodman dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Estrada continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jahmil Rippy, who scored seven points.
University Prep is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a massive bump to their 14-8 record this season. As for Eureka, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University Prep won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Anderson at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Anderson will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1075th, while University Prep is ranked 391st). As for Eureka, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fortuna at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
