Softball Recap: Shorecrest's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Shorecrest had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Lynnwood Royals on Wednesday as they made off with a 27-4 win. The Scots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Chloe Gurnee made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riu Hanrahan, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in triples (two). Lyla Ann Taing was another key player, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

Shorecrest hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Shorecrest's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 4-8. As for Lynnwood, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Shorecrest is set to challenge their familiar foe Edmonds-Woodway at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lynnwood will square off against rival Meadowdale at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
