Basketball Recap: Northridge Academy Piles Up the Points Against Vaughn

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Leuzinger, Northridge Academy was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Vaughn White Tigers 59-8. The Pumas have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 20 points or more this season.

Leading Northridge Academy to victory were Jennalyn Gerona and Janelle Estrella. Gerona went 9 of 13 en route to 21 points and four steals, while Estrella dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. Those 21 points gave Gerona a new career-high. Jacqueline Nettles was another key player, putting up four points in addition to ten boards and six blocks.

Northridge Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vaughn only posted three assists.

Northridge Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.1 points per game. As for Vaughn, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Northridge Academy and Vaughn's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Northridge Academy will face off against Fulton at 4:00 p.m. on January 23rd, a team that's only allowed 29 points per game. Similarly, Vaughn and Sherman Oaks CES (who has only given up 29.58 points per game) will meet at 3:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
