It was a good run, but the Monterey Trail Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell to Inderkum 106-101. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (98), Monterey Trail still had to take the loss.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brandon Gibson Jr, who almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds. Gibson Jr is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last five games he's played. Damarion Vann-Kelly was another key contributor, scoring 28 points along with two steals.
Inderkum got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jeremiah Butler out in front who scored 28 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Butler has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Malachi Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 19 rebounds.
Monterey Trail's loss ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 24-3. As for Inderkum, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.
Monterey Trail didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 86-65 win vs. Burbank on the 9th. Inderkum has also already played their next matchup, a 71-66 win against Antelope on the 9th.
