Harlingen South is a perfect 9-0 against Weslaco East since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Harlingen South will be playing at home against Weslaco East at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Harlingen South comes in on five and Weslaco East on seven.
On Tuesday, Harlingen South got the win against Pace by a conclusive 15-1. Considering the Hawks have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lexi Sandoval and Kailee Silva were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Sandoval struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Silva tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Sandoval has allowed since back in February. At bat, Sandoval scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Silva went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most doubles Silva has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaylin Mata, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kara Jensen, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Harlingen South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .395 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Weslaco East hadn't done well against Mercedes recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Weslaco East skirted past Mercedes 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since February 18th.
Aubrey Zuniga spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Weslaco East saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sarai Gonzalez, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Elaine Hernandez was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Harlingen South's win bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Weslaco East, their victory bumped their record up to 14-2.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Harlingen South hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Weslaco East struggles in that department as they've averaged .418. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Harlingen South's way against Weslaco East in their previous matchup back in February, as Harlingen South made off with a 10-3 win. Will Harlingen South repeat their success, or does Weslaco East has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
