Basketball Game Preview: Monarch Coyotes vs. Rocky Mountain Lobos

Monarch and Rocky Mountain are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Monarch Coyotes will host the Rocky Mountain Lobos at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Monarch sitting on three straight victories and Rocky Mountain on four.

Monarch is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Boulder on Tuesday as Monarch made off with a 63-43 win. With that victory, the Coyotes brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.

Monarch relied on the efforts of Sienna Williams, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 boards, and Ginger Milot, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 21 points along with seven boards and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Milot a new career-high in assists (four). Charlotte Weiss was another key player, putting up 13 points and five assists.

Monarch smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Rocky Mountain strolled past Legacy with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 55-41. Given the Lobos' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Lightning are ranked 95th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rocky Mountain's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-3. As for Monarch, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
