Valley had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  7-5  win over the Winterset Huskies  on Tuesday. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the   1-0 victory the Huskies walked away with the last time they faced one another  back in May of 2018.
 Maddison Zlomke spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned  (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.
 At the plate,  Mack Mohler was  incredible,  firing off two  home runs and three  runs while  getting on base  in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of  Addy Ballard, who  went 2-for-5 with one  stolen base and one  RBI.
 Both  teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valley will venture away from home to  face off against Dowling Catholic  at 5:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. As for Winterset, they are packing up and heading out  for their first away game of the season: they will  take on  Carroll  at 7:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. The  matchup will  give the Huskies their first taste of in-conference action this season.
