On Friday, The Liberty Lions never let their opponents score. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 60-0 victory over Chaparral. Given Liberty's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked first, while Chaparral is ranked 30th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Navi Bruzon was his usual excellent self, rushing for 79 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries, while also throwing for 224 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 passes. Ryan Jezioro did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 123 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Chaparral to a paltry 196 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Liberty's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out ten times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Keaton Stam and Gehrig Nuttall who racked up four sacks between them.
The victory (which was Liberty's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-1. As for Chaparral, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty will take on Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Centennial is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Chaparral, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Boulder Creek at 7:00 p.m. Boulder Creek is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
