The Pine Lake Prep Pride are taking a road trip to face off against the Central Academy Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Pine Lake Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Pine Lake Prep blew Mountain Island Charter out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Mountain Island Charter got their revenge. The Pride fell just short of the Raptors by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Pride have suffered since April 12, 2024.
Kristen Armstrong put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Sydney Gillmore made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Ava Cornacchione was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Central Academy faced off against Piedmont on Thursday. The Cougars lost 16-5 to the Panthers. The Cougars have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Katelyn Easterly was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Hunt, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Pine Lake Prep's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. As for Central Academy, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pine Lake Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Central Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
