After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Graceville, the Holmes County Blue Devils were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They escaped with a win against Geneva by the margin of a single free throw, 61-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Emma Whitaker, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Alaysia Robinson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five steals.
Simone Minnifield and Cheyenne Hammock certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Minnifield scored 21 points, while Hammock scored 14 points along with five assists and two steals. Minnifield continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaden Ward, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Holmes County's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Geneva, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-7.
Holmes County will take on Bethlehem at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Bethlehem will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 347th, while Holmes County is ranked 173rd). As for Geneva, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Slocomb at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Slocomb has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 14.
