The Arizona Lutheran Academy Coyotes are taking a road trip to square off against the Horizon Honors Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Arizona Lutheran Academy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight defeats, while Horizon Honors will come in with eight straight wins.
On Wednesday, Arizona Lutheran Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Scottsdale Christian Academy and fell 14-13.
Ella Peltzer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Humbert, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Horizon Honors won against ALA - Anthem South on Monday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Eagles blew past Heritage Academy 13-7. Considering the Eagles have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Audriana Anglada spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Nicole Topete was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Josie Barden, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Horizon Honors kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 12 consecutive contests.
Horizon Honors' victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.9 runs over those games. As for Arizona Lutheran Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Arizona Lutheran Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .503. However, it's not like Horizon Honors struggles in that department as they've averaged .589. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Arizona Lutheran Academy might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Horizon Honors when the teams last played on April 1st. Can the Coyotes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
