The South Warren Spartans will take on the Central Hardin Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Warren is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
If South Warren beats Central Hardin with 15 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Spartans didn't even let Warren Central on the board on Tuesday, marking the Spartans' second-straight 15-0 shutout. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.
Mikey Coradini made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gray Pearson was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Griffin Rardin, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
South Warren was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Central Hardin, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against Green County by a score of 8-3 on Tuesday. The Bruins haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Jordan Bailey looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Central Hardin's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 9-14 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Devin Hubbard was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Central Hardin: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 9-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellen Brandenburg, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Central Hardin's victory bumped their record up to 12-15. As for South Warren, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 19-7.
Central Hardin's pitching crew better be locked in on Thursday. South Warren hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. It's a different story for Central Hardin, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep South Warren in the park?
South Warren came out on top in a nail-biter against Central Hardin in their previous meeting back in May of 2022, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bruins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
