They secured a 38-34 W over Verrado. Given Desert Edge's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Verrado is ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Desert Edge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jitzabeth Hielo Miles, who scored nine points along with five steals. Hielo Miles is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Talyn Miller, who scored six points along with seven steals.
Desert Edge has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Verrado, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Desert Edge won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Horizon at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Horizon will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Verrado will take on Westview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
