Basketball Game Preview: South Umpqua Lancers vs. Siuslaw Vikings

South Umpqua is 8-2 against Siuslaw since January of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The South Umpqua Lancers will head out to challenge the Siuslaw Vikings at 5:30 p.m. South Umpqua's offense hasn't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Friday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

South Umpqua is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Sutherlin on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. South Umpqua was dealt a 48-8 loss at the hands of Sutherlin. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 72nd).

Meanwhile, Siuslaw took a blow against Coquille on Tuesday, falling 47-9. The Vikings have struggled against the Red Devils recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Siuslaw's defeat dropped their record down to 2-20. As for South Umpqua, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.

South Umpqua was able to grind out a solid win over Siuslaw when the teams last played back in January, winning 36-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Umpqua since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
