LAKE BUTLER, Fla. -
Union County (Lake Butler, Fla.) jumped out to an early lead against
Williston (Fla.) and never looked back on the way to a 28-10 victory on Saturday.
In the first quarter, the Fightin' Tigers put up seven points. Union County scored on a touchdown run by
Andy Holderfield.
After taking the lead on an Holderfield touchdown run in the first quarter, UC led 7-0 at the half.
The Lake Butler school grew its lead to 18 points entering the fourth quarter. The Fightin' Tigers scored two times in the third, including once on an Holderfield touchdown run.
Williston's only touchdown came on a 30-yard pass from
Stephen Cochlin to
Darien Thompson in the fourth quarter.
Union County went into the matchup giving up only 9.3 points per game. The 10 points that the Red Devils ended with were well below their average of 39.6 coming into the game.
UC also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 33-12.
The defeat comes as a step back for Williston, which notched a 62-52 victory over Lecanto in its previous outing. The win brought Union County's winning streak to three games.
In their next matchup the Fightin' Tigers (8-1) will take on Eagle's View in a non-conference game. The Warriors enter the contest having posted a 0-7.
