It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Seymour Owls ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged Columbus East out 59-56. Winning may never get old, but Seymour sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Despite the defeat, Columbus East saw an underclassman step up: Keaton Lawson scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lawson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Carter Patterson, who scored 12 points.
Columbus East struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Seymour has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Columbus East, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
Seymour will head out on the road to face off against Bedford North Lawrence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bedford North Lawrence is on a four-game streak of home wins, Seymour a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Columbus East will take on Mooresville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Mooresville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Friday.
