Gurdon is 0-3 against Magnet Cove since February of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Go-Devils will host the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Wednesday.
Gurdon barely beat Parkers Chapel the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Go-Devils blew past the Trojans 14-1 on Monday. Considering the Go-Devils have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Sadie Griffin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Griffin was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Alli Riley was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Penelope Lanton was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Gurdon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Magnet Cove). They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Murfreesboro on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Panthers with their most commanding win of the season.
Magnet Cove pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average this season. As for Gurdon, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
