The Largo Packers had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They put the hurt on Lakewood with a sharp 40-16 victory. The result was nothing new for Largo, who have now won four games by 23 points or more so far this season.
Jeremy Thomas was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 72 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 75 yards and a touchdown. Largo also got a significant boost from Malachi Peterson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 105 yards.
Even if they lost, Lakewood's defensive line still kept up the pressure with seven sacks. Leading the way was Rashard Hartwell and his three sacks.
Largo's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-7 Gibbs and 2-7 Lakewood (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 27.4% over those games). As for Lakewood, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Largo will head out on the road to face off against Osceola at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Osceola will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 271st, while Largo is ranked 106th). Lakewood will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Chaminade-Madonna at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd.
