Baseball Recap: Great Bridge Wins Going Away Against Hickory

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Western Branch, Great Bridge was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Hickory Hawks with a sharp 16-2 victory. That 14 run margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.

Brody Comparto made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Comparto was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cole Cinnamomd and Casey Cuddyer did most of the damage at the plate: Cinnamomd went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Cuddyer went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Cuddyer a new career-high. Ryder Harrell also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Great Bridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hickory only managed three hits.

Great Bridge's record now sits at 9-5. As for Hickory, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Great Bridge will face off against Lakeland at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hickory, they will take on Deep Creek at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Hawks are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
