The Plant Panthers will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Chamberlain Storm at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Plant is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Riverview. The Panthers blew past the Sharks 12-2 on Tuesday. The Panthers have beaten the Sharks the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Sharks has come to flipping the script.
Gigi Cozzens made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Cozzens was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Sienna Payano was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Katherine Butler was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Plant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverview only posted an OBP of .233.
Meanwhile, while Chamberlain put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Spoto. The Storm were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Spartans. The high-scoring effort was just what the Storm needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Like Plant, Chamberlain also got a great game from a two-way player: Braylynn Ausman Hall. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Ausman Hall was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arianna R, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Elli Bradburn, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Everything went Plant's way against Chamberlain in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, as Plant made off with a 17-0 win. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Storm turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
