The Brookfield Academy Blue Knights will challenge the St. Francis Mariners at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brookfield Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Brookfield Academy and St. John's Northwestern Military Academy, and St. John's Northwestern Military Academy kept the tradition alive. The Blue Knights fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 14-13 on Tuesday. The loss was the Blue Knights' first of the season.
Noah Thompson and Luis Torres did some serious damage despite the final result: Thompson went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Torres went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kolton Nimmer, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, St. Francis owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Milwaukee School of Languages as they made off with an 8-0 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mariners as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Zach Perry made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Andrew Xolot and Kingston Liddell did most of the damage at the plate: Xolot went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Liddell went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Liddell a new career-high. Isaiah Gutierrez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Having lost for the first time this season, Brookfield Academy fell to 5-1. As for St. Francis, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
