5A Continental recap Sept. 26, 2012
Chaparral's Zac Guy recorded the longest rushing play in 5A Continental this season in his game against Pomona last week. Guy scampered for 77 yards on the play and finished with 176 on the day as his team bested the Panthers.
Chaparral extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Pomona, 28-23. The victory was the fourth in a row for John Vogt's team.
Max Kuhns threw for 133 yards and three touchdowns. He was 10-23 with zero interceptions.
Rocco Palumbo was the best wideout in the league this week as Mountain Vista lost to Arapahoe. Palumbo racked up 11 receptions for 147 yards. Christopher Hill helped Mountain Vista's passing attack out by catching two balls for 40 yards.
Eric Bryan made the biggest impact on defense this week as Douglas County topped Rocky Mountain. The defensive lineman recorded one fumble.
The Wolverines' Kuhns and Mitchell Parsons have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Continental in both passing and receiving yards. Kuhns has thrown for 902 yards this season, while Parsons, a 6-foot-5 receiver, has 22 catches for 367 yards. The Huskies' Trey Smith leads the league in rushing yards with 637.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Chaparral takes on Highlands Ranch. At the moment, the Wolverines are in first, while the Falcons are in fifth.
ThunderRidge was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, the Grizzlies triumphed over Bear Creek 37-21.
