Alexander Central and South Caldwell are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Alexander Central Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the South Caldwell Spartans at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Alexander Central is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
On Tuesday, Alexander Central came up short against Watauga and fell 60-49. While losing is never fun, Alexander Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while Watauga is ranked 130th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Chad Lasher, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jayon Connor, who scored ten points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, South Caldwell had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They strolled past Freedom with points to spare, taking the game 90-74. South Caldwell's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Alexander Central has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for South Caldwell, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
Alexander Central came up short against South Caldwell in their previous meeting back in January, falling 64-54. Can Alexander Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
