Canyon View is a perfect 5-0 against Desert Edge since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Jaguars will host the Scorpions at 5:00 p.m. Canyon View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.9 runs per game this season.
Canyon View is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Verrado, who was ranked 11th at the time (Canyon View was ranked 16th). The Jaguars walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Vipers on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jaguars.
Emily Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rylen Buchberger was excellent, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Downs, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Canyon View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 16-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, while Desert Edge put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Paradise Valley. The Scorpions came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 5-0.
Ryann Dobbins (2025) looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, Desert Edge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aliyah Fatigoni (2027), who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Another was Gwen Alvarez (2026), who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Canyon View pushed their record up to 19-4 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Desert Edge, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season.
Desert Edge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Canyon View has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Desert Edge, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Canyon View's sizable advantage in that area, the Scorpions will need to find a way to close that gap.
Canyon View took their win against Desert Edge in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 21-3 score. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Scorpions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
