Baseball Recap: Southwestern Extends Winning Streak to Four

Southwestern came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Switzerland County Pacers a 5-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-1 back in April.

Not much got past Tryson Warren, who gave up just a hit to keep Switzerland County off the board. Warren has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jeter Chatham, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Varble, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Southwestern pushed their record up to 16-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Switzerland County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season.

Southwestern will be playing in front of their home fans against Seymour at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rebels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Owls have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Switzerland County, they will face off against South Dearborn at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
