The Sudan Hornets will face off against the O'Donnell Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Sudan has given up an average of 12.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sudan is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Saturday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Sundown.
Sudan saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haden Provence, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Miles Ledbetter was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, O'Donnell beat Ralls 6-2 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Willie Luera was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaken Bolton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Graham, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
O'Donnell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .542 or higher in four consecutive games.
Sudan's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for O'Donnell, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sudan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. However, it's not like O'Donnell struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Sudan's way against O'Donnell in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Sudan made off with a 14-1 win. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
