Lancaster had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 8-5 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Westmoreland Eagles as they made off with a 10-1 victory. Considering the Red Devils have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Braelyn Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Ayla Saunders and Isabella Gill did most of the damage at the plate: Saunders got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Gill went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Gill a new career-high. Kelsie Cox also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Lancaster kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westmoreland only managed two hits.
As for Westmoreland, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5. Having soared to a lofty 26 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
Like Lancaster, Westmoreland also got a great game from a two-way player: Emma Burgess. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Burgess was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played.
Lancaster will have a chance to go back-to-back against Westmoreland: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
