Wisner-Pilger is 10-0 against Pender since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Wisner-Pilger Gators will head out on the road to take on the Pender Pendragons. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Wisner-Pilger has struggled recently with 12 losses in a row, while Pender will arrive with four straight victories.
Wisner-Pilger's 19-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were beaten by Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 70-39 on Tuesday. Wisner-Pilger was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-15.
Pender posted their closest victory yet this season two weeks ago. They had just enough and edged Wynot out 35-33.
Alex Roth was his usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Zander Welsh, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Wisner-Pilger bumped their record down to 0-11 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Pender, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Wisner-Pilger was able to grind out a solid win over Pender in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 45-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wisner-Pilger since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
