The Independence Blue Devils will take on the Perry Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Independence comes in on eight and Perry on five.
Independence had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt North Olmsted on Wednesday. The Blue Devils' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won five matchups by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Lila Manfredonia made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Independence got a big performance out of Addison Kolar, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Julia Chait was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Olmsted only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, Perry sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Edgewood on Saturday. The three-run effort marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Sophie Sivon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Morgan Winters was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Rogers, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Independence's record is now 10-3. As for Perry, their record now sits at 20-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Independence hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .404. However, it's not like Perry struggles in that department as they've averaged .420. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Independence suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Perry when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
