The Corona Panthers will face off against the Downey Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Corona's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Downey's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Corona will head out to face Downey after giving up their first home loss of the season on Friday. The Panthers came up short against King, falling 10-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Panthers have suffered since May 6, 2025.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Downey). They blew past Notre Dame (SO) 21-6 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Giana Castillo-Flores looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Downey let Delilah Navarro and Hazel Renteria run wild. Navarro went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Renteria went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave Renteria a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailey ?KK? Murillo, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Downey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.
Downey's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Corona, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.
