Columbia is 2-8 against Skyview since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Columbia will head out to challenge Skyview at 3:00 p.m. Columbia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Columbia came into this matchup off a tough 17-run loss on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Vallivue by a score of 8-6 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since May 9, 2024.
Meanwhile, Skyview came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Cougars. The Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Ledger Downs made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Trevan Plew was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Henry Downey, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Skyview hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.
Skyview pushed their record up to 6-2-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.
Columbia suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Skyview when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Columbia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
