The West Nassau Warriors fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Baldwin Indians on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 59-58 to the Indians. West Nassau was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Baldwin apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Baldwin was led to victory by Nyrie Gabriel and Janiylah Stallworth. Gabriel scored 17 points along with four steals and two blocks, while Stallworth scored 19 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stallworth has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Danasia Baxter, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
West Nassau has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Baldwin, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Nassau on the road again on Tuesday and play against Baker County at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Baldwin, they will square off against Englewood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
