Lake Region is 1-9 against Lake Wales since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lake Region Thunder will host the Lake Wales Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. Lake Region is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Lake Region made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Auburndale, but still couldn't quite topple them. Lake Region never let Auburndale get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Thunder as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Not much got past Kaeden Geraci, who gave up just a hit to keep Auburndale off the board.
On the hitting side, Ayden Wheelis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gage Calcutt, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Lake Region always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Lake Wales didn't have quite enough to beat Lakeland on Thursday and fell 2-1. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Max Seidl was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits.
At the plate, Lake Wales saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Franks, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Lake Wales' defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Lake Region, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Lake Wales' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lake Region has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. It's a different story for Lake Wales, though, as they've only averaged .326. Will they be able to contain Lake Region's hitters?
