Mesilla Valley Christian School is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Laguna Acoma is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The SonBlazers will host the Hawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Mesilla Valley Christian School made easy work of McCurdy and carried off a 15-3 victory.
Maren Fiske made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Fiske was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Mesilla Valley Christian School got a massive performance out of Briley Eaton, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those four runs gave Eaton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacie Caldwell, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Mesilla Valley Christian School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .517 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Laguna Acoma took on Northwest on Thursday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 28-2 margin over the Falcons. That 26 run margin sets a new team best for the Hawks this season.
Brianna Filmer was a standout: she fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Jazmyne Carrillo was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases.
Laguna Acoma has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.6 runs over those games. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, their victory bumped their record up to 15-6.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mesilla Valley Christian School hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like Laguna Acoma struggles in that department as they've averaged .551. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mesilla Valley Christian School might still be hurting after the 15-6 loss they got from Laguna Acoma in their previous matchup back in March of 2017. Can the SonBlazers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
