The Mary Persons Bulldogs waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 52-42 win over Jackson. Given Mary Persons' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Red Devils are ranked 395th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mary Persons was led to victory by Anaja Lucear and Zaria Wilson. Lucear scored 12 points along with six assists and six rebounds, while Wilson scored 22 points along with seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mimi Mccord, who scored three points along with four steals.
Jackson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophie Logan, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Logan has scored all season. Ariyah Burke was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Mary Persons' victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Jackson, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.
Mary Persons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Upson-Lee and the Bulldogs are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
