Newark will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Bloom-Carroll extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Bulldogs blew past Amanda-Clearcreek 15-2. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 15 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Emma Brandt made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bloom-Carroll got a massive performance out of Madi Grefe, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Ady Luke was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.
Bloom-Carroll kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Newark fell victim to Lancaster and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 8-0 to the Golden Gales. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Wildcats' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Newark saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Queen, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Newark has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Bloom-Carroll, their win bumped their record up to 20-2.
Bloom-Carroll took their victory against Newark in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-4 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
