The Amundsen Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Lincoln Park Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Amundsen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, everything went Amundsen's way against Dyett as Amundsen made off with a 52-29 victory. The win was all the more spectacular given Amundsen's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 432nd, while Dyett is ranked 84th).
Giana Solomon and Taylor Barnes were among the main playmakers for Amundsen as the former dropped a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds and the latter scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Solomon continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Higgins, who scored 2 points along with 8 assists.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Park's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Wednesday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 47-32 to Bremen. That's two games in a row now that Lincoln Park has lost by exactly 15 points.
Kenwood's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Amundsen's defeat dropped theirs to 1-2.
Amundsen didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Lincoln Park in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 42-37 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Amundsen since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
