On Friday, The Rondout Valley Ganders faced the Ellenville Blue Devils in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Rondout Valley fell just short of Ellenville by a score of 32-30. Rondout Valley lost against Ellenville in their previous head to head last Saturday, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 40-34 score last time.
Ellenville had a senior duo take command as Jacob Wright rushed for 132 yards and three touchdowns and Dylan Nero rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Wright hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games.
Rondout Valley now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Ellenville, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rondout Valley will take on Onteora at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New York (Onteora is ranked 24th, while Rondout Valley is ranked 15th). As for Ellenville, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Millbrook/Webutuck at 6:00 p.m. Millbrook/Webutuck is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
