Baseball Recap: Scottsburg Snaps 14-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Scottsburg dropped their record down to 10-3 on Saturday, which also ended the team's 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Borden Braves by a score of 8-7. Warriors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Braves since on Saturday.

Scottsburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandt Kendall, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Kendall is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as he's now launched at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

As for Borden, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The game was the first time they have beaten Scottsburg on their field since April 3, 2021.

On Borden's side, Garrett Schmidt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Schmidt has become a key player for Borden: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-5 otherwise. Schmidt was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Brady Peine was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Zander Keith, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Coming up, Scottsburg will challenge Brownstown Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 3.9, the Braves 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Borden, they will take on Orleans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
