West Springfield and East Longmeadow are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Terriers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. West Springfield's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so East Longmeadow's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
West Springfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Holyoke with a sharp 20-5 victory on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Terriers considering their one-run performance the game before.
Meanwhile, East Longmeadow entered their tilt with Taconic on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Thunder. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mason Ruel looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gavin Chmura, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Maurer, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
East Longmeadow hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
West Springfield pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for East Longmeadow, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Everything went West Springfield's way against East Longmeadow in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as West Springfield made off with an 11-1 victory. Do the Terriers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
