Downey is a perfect 10-0 against Paramount since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Vikings will venture away from home to face off against the Pirates at 3:15 p.m. Downey is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
Downey's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They came out on top against Capistrano Valley by a score of 5-0.
Leilani Kaiwi Gonzales was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.
In other batting news, Delilah Navarro was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025.
Downey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Capistrano Valley only posted a batting average of .217.
Meanwhile, Paramount posted their closest win since March 29, 2025 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mira Costa, sneaking past 3-1.
Paramount saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Diaz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that Diaz has hit this season.
Downey's record is now 6-1. As for Paramount, their record now sits at 4-1-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Downey hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like Paramount struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Downey's way against Paramount when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Downey made off with an 8-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
