The Severance Silver Knights will face off against the Thompson Valley Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Severance is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Severance came up short against Roosevelt and fell 8-5.
Severance saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Declan Moylett, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another was Brady Iversen, who scored two runs and stole a base.
Meanwhile, Thompson Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Grizzlies a 10-0 shutout.
Evan Raabe made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Thompson Valley: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 3-5 otherwise. Raabe was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-2. That's the most home runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other pitching news, Jonathon Jack looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
Back at the plate, Beau Balliet and Sam Engelland did most of the damage at the plate: Balliet scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1, while Engelland scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Balliet a new career-high. Landon Carrol was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Thompson Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Thompson Valley now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Severance, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Severance has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Thompson Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Severance beat Thompson Valley 8-3 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Silver Knights repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
