The Tomball Memorial Wildcats will take on the Atascocita Eagles at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Tomball Memorial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Tomball Memorial picked up another tournament win on Friday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over New Caney.
Lauren Coombs looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.
On the hitting side, Lacey Matheson and Taylor Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Matheson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Johnson scored a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, Matheson posted three hits, the most she's had over her last 12 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynslie Cathey, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Tomball Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Caney only posted a batting average of .160.
Meanwhile, Atascocita put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They skirted past Langham Creek 3-1. The three-run effort marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Allison Burkhalter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Burkhalter was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Burkhalter wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Marigny Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Atascocita's victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Tomball Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Atascocita's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Tomball Memorial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Atascocita, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Tomball Memorial keep running through batters, or will Atascocita buck the trend?
