Softball Recap: Glens Falls Continues Road Dominance on Wednesday

Glens Falls had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Broadalbin-Perth on Wednesday. The Black Bears put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 17-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Black Bears in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won seven in a row.

Isabella Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ella Carner was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Fallyn Bennett, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.

Glens Falls kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Glens Falls pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Broadalbin-Perth, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Glens Falls and Broadalbin-Perth could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Black Bears will square off against South Glens Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (153 vs. 41). Meanwhile, Broadalbin-Perth (ranked 433rd) will meet Hudson Falls (ranked 67th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
