Basketball Recap: Fairmont Drops Highest Score of Season Against Northmont

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fairmont). They really took it to the Northmont Thunderbolts for the full four quarters, racking up a 78-20 victory. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 55-9.

Fairmont was led to victory by Janiyah Hargrave and Kaylah Thornton. Hargrave dropped a double-double on 35 points and 12 rebounds, while Thornton went 11 of 15 on her way to 23 points along with eight steals and five boards. Those 35 points gave Hargrave a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nico Cornett, who posted five points and seven steals.

Fairmont was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive games.

Fairmont pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points per game. As for Northmont, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairmont has already played their next contest (against Talawanda), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Northmont will head out on the road to face off against Arcanum at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Arcanum has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 184 points over their last three matchups.
