The Monument Valley Mustangs will square off against the Ganado Hornets at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Monument Valley's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Ganado has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Monument Valley will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Thursday, then bounced right back against Chinle on Monday. The Mustangs came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 12-8.
Monument Valley got a massive performance out of Hailey Etsitty, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Etsitty has posted over her last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Nannabah Haskan, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.
Monument Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Ganado came up short against Window Rock on Friday, falling 13-7.
Shayli Abeita-Walker was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one double. Anisa Esparza was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
Ganado's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Monument Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Monument Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Ganado struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Monument Valley's way against Ganado when the teams last played back in March, as Monument Valley made off with a 19-5 win. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
