The St. John Fighting Herald will take on the Pymatuning Valley Lakers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. St. John is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, St. John had just enough and edged out Kirtland 10-8. That's two games straight that the Fighting Herald have won by exactly two runs.
Dyln Newsome was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Will Anderson was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs and two doubles.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: St. John kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kirtland only managed eight hits.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Pymatuning Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They came up short against Jefferson Area, falling 10-4.
Pymatuning Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CJ Karbacka, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run.
The win made it two in a row for St. John and bumps their season record up to 14-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Pymatuning Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 15-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. John has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pymatuning Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
St. John was able to grind out a solid victory over Pymatuning Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 11-6. Do the Fighting Herald have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
