The Poteet Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Adams Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Poteet is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Poteet at home against West Mesquite as the squad secured a 70-15 win. Given Poteet's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 467th, while West Mesquite is ranked 1248th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Even though Adams has not done well against Spruce recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Adams walked away with a 48-39 win over Spruce. Adams' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Adams got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Artiss Harris out in front who scored 17 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Harris has scored at least 25% of Adams' points. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Marquez, who scored 11 points.
Poteet's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-10. As for Adams, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7.
Everything came up roses for Poteet against Adams in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 84-13 win. Does Poteet have another victory up their sleeve, or will Adams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
