If the North Salinas Vikings were riding high off their 62-36 takedown of the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. North Salinas opened the new year with a less-than-successful 54-45 defeat to Greenfield. North Salinas was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Greenfield apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, North Salinas saw an underclassman step up: Andre Lizaola scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. The match was Lizaola's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jesse Mendez, who scored six points.
North Salinas has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Greenfield, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-10.
North Salinas will take on Pajaro Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pajaro Valley is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Greenfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Rancho San Juan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
