Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 12 to 4 on the offensive boards, a fact the Blue Valley Northwest Huskies proved on Wednesday. They took down Olathe North 49-34. Given Blue Valley Northwest's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Eagles are ranked 117th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lainie Douglas continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Darensbourg, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Olathe North's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lailah Simmons, who scored five points along with 11 rebounds. Simmons hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for three straight games. Asia Lee was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Blue Valley Northwest and bumps their season record up to 10-1. As for Olathe North, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-7.
Blue Valley Northwest won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Owls at 6:30 p.m. on January 25th. Olathe West is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for Olathe North, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Raiders at 5:30 p.m. Shawnee Mission South will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
